Slingshot is a reference to the instrument used in the biblical story of David versus Goliath, which is often quoted by constituents in the litigation finance industry.

In the context of litigation finance, the stone used by David in his sling is the equivalent of litigation finance in the context of litigation, as litigation finance is the ammunition that plaintiffs and lawyers use to level the playing field and ultimately defeat their opponent.  The two arms of the sling represent the plaintiff and lawyer who provide the necessary support, knowledge, and foundation to allow the sling to function properly.

Slingshot is a resource

to provide unbiased perspectives on all aspects of investing in litigation finance. For an established, multi-billion dollar asset class, litigation finance remains highly opaque and complex. The learning curve to really understand the various peculiarities of the space is steep enough – but it has been made even more difficult due to the scant amount of information available in the public domain.

Litigation finance has the potential to offer tremendous value to industry constituents –

in particular, plaintiffs with a meritorious claim (individuals and corporate portfolios alike), the law firms that attempt to find a resolution for that claim (or a portfolio of claims), and investors seeking an attractive, uncorrelated return stream. That is, if they have a thorough understanding of its pitfalls and benefits.

Slingshot’s objective is simple:

to provide an objective knowledge base for all industry constituents and anyone interested in learning more.
